Cair Paravel

Over Christmas break I drove down to Standardsville VA to visit my long-time friend Brendan and his wife Mia at the farm they are living and working at. The farm is called Cair Paravel and Mia's parent's own and run it. They have sheep, geese, chickens, ducks and goats and rent out a Yurt to vacationers! It is GORGEOUS down there. The farm is on the side of a mountain with ridiculous views.

See? Ridiculous.
So anyway, it had been a few years since I had seen Brendan so I was very excited to go down there. I visited with him and his wife and her parents, we made pizzas for dinner then talked until we were falling asleep (at 10 pm! We live on the EDGE!). I spent the night and in the morning Brendan and I went out to take care of the animals. It was so fun! We fed everyone, I met the beautiful barn dog Aslan and then Brendan showed me how to milk a goat! I was not very good at it, Kikki really didn't like it but it was still fun! I had an amazing time at Cair Paravel and can't wait to go back! And if you are in the VA area you should seriously consider renting the Yurt for a night; just look at the Cair Paravel blog for info and pictures!

This weekend I took Miles (Chevon and James' boy child) to the Model Train Show at Thanksgiving point! We me up with my friend Becca and her little boy and husband. It was fun, but I didn't get any pictures. :). But here is a picture of Miles eating at Cold Stone after the train show!

Christmas 2K11

This Christmas we went to VA to spend the holidays with my family. It was the best Christmas ever. All of my siblings were there for the first time in 2 years so that was really fun. It was a full house! My younger siblings are getting so old and teenager-y: Aaron is driving now! Sarah is wearing makeup! Dallin is so funny! Justin is staying busy with friends and taking care of biz-nass, Grant and Stephanie are both hard at work with school and jobs in Idaho and my older sibling Natalie and her husband Darren are having a good time living in VA being hard-working teachers to America's unruly youth. It was a nice to visit with and catch up with everyone. We were even able to go play 3 games of laser tag one day, all 12 of us kids! We had the place to ourselves, it was SO FUN. Thanks Rackham Family for such a great Christmas!

Bogus Disney Weekend 2012

We stayed at the Castle Inn & Suites. It was neat.

This past weekend Charles and I flew out to Anaheim to participate in a mini Bogus Family Reunion at our favorite vacation spot....you guessed it, DISNEYLAND! Whoo. We arrived Friday night and walked around Anaheim a bit before hitting the sack. The next morning was an early one! We were up at the crack of dawn so we could be first at the gates for Disneyland (of course). Seriously, that is the best way to do it, it is so much fun! Haha. After a few hours in the park we met up with the rest of the Bogus clan (who had come to the park later or who had just flown in that morning) handed out the shirts Charles and I had made and hit up some rides! Disneyland still had all their Christmas decorations up so the Haunted Mansion was still Nightmare Before Christmas themed! IT WAS AWESOME. Seriously. We all then headed to the Grand California Hotel for lunch, where we met up with some more Bogi! Charles' cousin Jenny came, and he hadn't seen her in ten years or so; it was great to meet her and her husband and see her parents Mary Ellen and Dennis.

After lunch we hit up the parks some more then got some dinner at Tortilla Jo's in Downtown Disney for Eric's (and Emily's, Cris' and Elaine's) birthday! That place is delicious. They gave us a crazy private balcony room and the awesome mariachi band came and serenaded everyone with a birthday song! It was such a fun dinner.
Dinner ended pretty late and Charles and I were beat but we HAD to keep going. Our original plan was to stay in the park 'till it closed at midnight; we didn't make it, haha. We did last until 11:30 though! Seriously, this was the best trip to Disneyland ever. We can't wait until Bogus Disney Weekend 2013!!

Graduation!

Asher has been in a puppy training class at Petsmart for a few months now and he recently graduated! He did great in the class, learned a lot and made some new buddies. He still needs a lot of work with "leave it" and "drop it" but he excells at hide and go seek, "come" and the sit, stay, and shake commands. Asher will be starting the intermediate class in January and we are excited! We would like to train him to be a search and rescue dog and think he would do a great job! He already follows peoples' trails when we are in the woods and at parks. He rules.

The day Asher almost died

Well I don't think he almost died, but he looked close to it. Yesterday, Charles and I arrived home from work to visit Asher on our lunch break and opened the door to find Asher looking like a mutant. We were terrified! His face was so swollen and bumpy! He seemed to be happy, wagging his tail and walking around like he was fine, but we didn't fall for it and drove him up to the vet as fast as we could. The vet said he had been bitten by a spider. ACK I HATE SPIDERS. He gave Asher a shot in the rump and sent us on our way.

The shot seemed to help immediately, as we noticed the swelling was down a bit by the time we got back home. I stayed with the poor guy the rest of the day. Poor Asher couldn't relax because his face was bothering him so much; he kept rubbing it with his paws and rubbing in on the couch, so I just kept giving him treats to help him feel better. We eventually got some Benadryll and he ate it like a champ and was finally able to rest. By bedtime his face looked almost normal! He is a trooper :)

I am so glad it was nothing serious at that the little guy is doing well!

So yeah, you can understand why we freaked out, ha. His right eye was swollen shut and the left was getting close. He had a HUGE lump sticking out of his right cheek (where I am guessing the spider bit him). I hope he gets lots of spider-free rest today! :)

Trip to St. George

Jessie Evans and I went on a trip this weekend to visit Linne Marsh and her little family in St. George. We wanted to go see her newest kiddo, who is adorable! It was such a great trip. We all stayed up later than we had in eons, chatting it up each night. On Saturday, Linne had a stake YW flash mob in the St.George Cotton Mission parade. That was awesome. Not many people showed up to dance but it was still fun to watch the dance and the p'rade! We even rode a carousel! It seemed a little fast, and Sydney told them to "slow down!" haha. That night we went so this place called the Anasazi Room (I think?) and it was very good and we all smelled like steak afterward. Fun!

Sunday after church the three of us went on a mini-hike to see some petroglyphs; they were so neat and the view was beautiful! It was so fun to spend time with those ladies and their cute kiddos! I can't wait to do it again.

Yup! We have one cute little ~~devil~~ darling! His name is Asher, he loves to chew on all our stuff and sprint away from us when he knows he has something he is not supposed to have. His best friend is a large green vase, and he plays with him every day.

He has probably doubled in size since we got him a month ago, and he just keeps growing! We love playing fetch, chasing him around the house and picking up his poop outside. He already knows how to sit, heel and is picking up the "stay" command. We took him to the river the other day and he walked right in! Anywhoo, we love Asher.

If you lie down he WILL try to eat your head.

Yellowstone - Day 2

But before I get to Yellowstone, here is this little gem:

The majority of the Rackham family! We are missing Grant and Stephanie, and some other cousins are absent as well on missions and such.

So Charles and I decided to spend most of the last day driving in Yellowstone. It was a great decision! We drove nice and slow so we could enjoy the smell of the trees and the sulphur (sike!), saw some animals, stopped at Ol' Faithful and just generally had a super time seeing the sights. 4th of July weekend part 2

So! Sunday started out like your basic Sunday; wake up, go to church, come home and EAT. I left church early to come back and pack since we had to leave that afternoon. Once everyone else got back to the hotel the Final Round for the Rackham Family Dominoes Tournament began. It was Ben, Jared, and Dallin vs. me. At first Ben had the lead, but through some clever sabotaging, Dallin took the lead. I was a close second most of the time, but Dallin ended up taking home the trophy. Yeah Dallin! I will steal it in 3 years!

After the tournament, everyone headed to a local park for a picnic lunch and family history presentation by my grandparents. It was great. After eating we played some 500 and other games then sat down for the presentation. First my Grandma reminded us of the reunion's theme:

"Accentuate the Positive
Eliminate the negative
Latch on to the affirmative
And don't mess with mister in-between"

It is a great theme! That is something we need to work on, so it was great to have that reminder. She handed out little wallet cards so we can remind ourselves every day to stay positive. Then my Grandma talked about how we need to do what makes us happy and have dreams, and work for those dreams. It doesn't matter if we don't attain it when we are young or old, just that we get there. It was great. She then handed out pictures of her and my grandpa when they were younger and pictures of our older relatives as well as typed information on ancestors. It was so neat; I am super excited to have those pictures in my home. Right after their presentation was complete, everyone helped clean up then Charles and I said our goodbyes before we hit the road. It was sad to leave, but we are really looking forward to the next one! Yeah 2014!

Next: Yellowstone (again)

4th of July weekend

Charles and I had the great pleasure of driving to South Dakota for a family reunion over the 4th of July weekend. We left Thursday, June 30 at almost lunch time, and drove up to Rexburg to see Grant and Stephanie. That was great! We haven't seen them since their wedding, I think. It was really nice to visit with them for a while and hear their funny stories. After departing Rexburg, we headed up to Yellowstone. Now, we didn't realize our google map was telling us to drive through Yellowstone, so when we got to the gate and were asked to pay an entrance fee, we were a little caught off guard. But we paid it and it was so worth it! We saw so many buffalo on the drive through!

After Yellowstone we stopped in Billings, MT. We got there super late, so we went straight to bed, and got up early the next morning to hit the road again! We met up with Natalie and Darren in Billings and had breakfast with them before racing them to Rapid City, SD. The drive on Friday was much shorter, and we got into town around 3pm. It was great to finally arrive! After relaxing at the hotel and visiting with the fam the whole clan headed to a park for a picnic dinner. Before and after eating everyone played wiffle ball, badmitton, volleyball and skipped rocks. It was super fun. Friday was Dallin's birthday, so Charles and I got him a wiffle bat and ball which we used for the game. Our game ended on a tie, 8-8. We will crush them next time!! After the games there were a few announcements, then a birthday cake for Dall-dog! After leaving the park we all headed back to the hotel and hit the sack.

The next day was Mount Rushmore day! We all left the hotel at 9:30 because the entire Rackham family was supposed to be on the steps of Mount Rushmore by 10:00 sharp. Sarah, Charles and I were there at 9:50. We waited....and waited...haha. The rest of my family showed up at 10:00, but still no other Rackhams! Everyone was finally there by 10:30, and we took a great family photo on the steps then headed into the park. Each family was free to roam at will, so my family headed on the Presidential Hike around the front of the monument. It was a nice little hike! Justin had to go on a secret retrieval mission to get my camera case the I dropped in the forbidden zone, and he succeeded of course! What with all they secret agent marine training he has. We also visited the Artist's Studio, which had models of the monument and pictures of it being carved. Very interesting!

After Mount Rushmore, we all headed into Keystone for some delicious lunch and shopping. We got a keychain and a magnet!! YEAH! Big spenders. There was a really neat store called Crazy Joe's, or Snake-eyed Joe's or something (I called it Creepy Joe's) that had some really neat snake skin and snake tooth neckaces and earrings and old guns and funny shirts, etc. It was awesome. Except for the creepy guy.
We then headed back to Rapid City, and stopped at an awesome Maze on the way. Darren, Dallin, Aaron, Charles and I all did the maze while my Mom, Dad and Natalie sat and watched. It was so fun!! Charles and I ran around for the first half, then teamed up with Justin and continued to run in circles in vain. We would run into the other boys every once in a while which made it more exciting since it was a race. An amazing race. Dallin beat everyone by getting out in a half hour, Aaron finished in 40-ish minutes, Darren in an hour I think.....and then it took us 1hr 21min. Haha. We were so determined to win but we got so lost and stuck, we finally had to roll under the walls to get out without killing ourselves, haha.

Can you believe there is more? Well there is!! After we all got back to the hotel we had to go swimming as it was so warm! We started out racing, then decided to play a water polo game. It was Justin, Charles and me vs. Dallin, Aaron and Darren. We didn't keep score but it was an exciting game! Justin told me the video my Dad took of the game is hilarious, so we can't wait to see that this Christmas. Later in the evening there was the big Rackham Family Cribbage & Dominoes Tournament! I played on a table (playing dominoes) against Charles and our cousins Jeff and Matt. I won! So I got to advance to the finals which were held the next day. Once the tournament was over and the finalists were determined, everyone hit the hay to get some rest for the next fun day!

And the hunt is over!! Charles and I found a house a month ago or so and are anxiously awaiting closing, which should happen any day now! We are so excited to move in and make the place our own. I will post more pictures after we get the keys. Yeah!!!

So, finding a house is getting annoying! So far we have made 3 offers and gotten snaked 3 times!! I am over this. Yesterday on Property Virgins (a show on my current favorite channel HGTV) a couple looked at 75 houses and made 10 offers and STILL didn't get a house!! At least things are not that bad for us....yet :)
On a good note, tonight is the finale of America's Next Top Model!! Make it work, models! Wait....wrong show. Lip sync for you life, ladies! Will it be Molly the Meanie:

House hunt of death

So Charles and I started a hunt for a home a few weeks ago. It has been going alright; there have been a few ups and a lot of downs, haha. So far we have made offers on 2 houses, the first one was SNAKED from us and the sellers of the second weren't willing to come down to our price level so we bailed. SO! Rough. We have seen what feels like a jillion homes and have really honed in on the style and age we prefer. Now we just have to find that again in our budget! Here are examples of funny stuff we have seen:

*A raccoon themed kitchen complete with a raccoon skin on the wall (why????)
*Lots of full apartments in basements. Weird.
*Tiny yards of doom
*20' or so ceilings in a basement.
*Santa-Fe style built in shelves and bunk bed in said basement.
*Bedrooms the size of my current closet....TINY
*Lots of astroturf-carpeted stairs
*Wood paneling!!!!! The horror!!!

And many more. When I think of those I will write them up for all you avid readers (Hello?.....anyone there?).

Disneyland - Day 3

A day in the parks again! Yeaaaaaaaaaaah! Monday morning we got to sleep in a bit since the parks open later on weekdays. We got up around 7:30, packed up our snacks and ponchos (since the forecast said more rain), then headed out around 8:30. It was a bit cooler that day but still sunny and beautiful. We decided to take a different route through the Disney hotels and Downtown Disney and it was a nice walk! It was fun to see what kind of stores and restaurants there were in Downtown Disney.
So our original plan for the day was to get to California Adventure Park and hour early so we could be first in line to get into the park. This is what we have done in years past, and it gets us to the Hollywood Tower of Terror without having to wait in line. But this time we saw that it wasn't too busy and we found out the Fast Passes would be working fot the HToT, so we decided to head into Disneyland first as it had just opened. It was the right move! We went strait to Space Mountain, rode the Matterhorn which we had missed on Saturday, rode the Snow White ride and then headed back to California Adventure Park. There still wasn't much of a crowd! We speedwalked to HToT and got right on! That ride is the absolute best. Afterward we went and got Fast Passes for it, then walked over to the Screamin' Over CA roller coaster. There was a bit of a wait, but that was fine. It started raining while we were waiting but we had our trusty ponchos so we threw them on and got on the ride. Another awesome one!
We then headed back to the HToT. As we were on the ride, at the very top, the doors opened and we saw the the sky had officially broken open and it was POURING!! Haha. We ran from the ride to Downtown Disney for lunch, getting our feet soaked but otherwise staying mostly dry thanks to our magical Disney ponchos. We ate lunch at some delicious mexican place, then relaxed for a bit to dry off.
After lunch the sun came out and we headed back to Disneyland! We did some shopping, some carmel apple eating, and rode all the best rides again and again. Aaaaaah, so magical. Haha. We headed back to our hotel around dusk, sad to be leaving but happy to have come. After getting back to our hotel, we ate dinner then played our Haunted Mansion LIFE game. It was a great vacation. We are so happy to be able to visit Disneyland so often and can't wait for our next trip!

Anaheim - Day 2

Our second day in Anaheim was a rainy one. Friday afternoon we decided to stay in CA for an additional day so we could go to Disneyland again on Monday instead of Sunday and boy are we glad we made that decision! Sunday was a wet super rainy day. Our plans to go to the beach got cancelled, so we just hung out at our hotel for the morning. That afternoon we headed down to my aunt Jennie's house in Mission Viejo.
My dad is currently in San Diego for some work business, and was when we were out there, so we met up at his sister's house (my aunt Jennie's) for dinner. It was a lot of fun. We hadn't seen my aunt and her family in a while, and hadn't seen my dad since Grant's wedding (I think?)so it was nice to visit. Jennie's kids are a riot and had us laughing the whole time. After dinner we visited for a bit and took some pictures then headed back up to Anaheim! We stopped at a Target on the way to get some extra clothes (warmer ones) and a movie for the night. It was a nice relaxing fun day!

Disneyland - Day 1

Hello! Last week Charles and I drove to Disneyland. We arrived Friday afternoon, and just took it easy in Anaheim. We got some yummy pizza at a place we go to everytime we are in town, then walked to Disneyland so we could time how long it took. Haha, we like to plan ahead. After that we went to Trader Joe's to load up on snacks for the next day, then relaxed at our hotel and went to bed early (8:30!). The next morning we got up at the crack o' dawn and walked to the park. We were first in line at the gates as usual! That is our family tradition :). Haha.
After the gates opened an hour later (8 am) we had an amazing time riding Space Mountain, the Finding Nemo ride, Indiana Jones (twice!), the Haunted Mansion (twice!), Pirates of the Carribian (twice!) and many others. We had lunch at the Blue Bayou, which is the restaurant inside the Pirates of the Carribean ride. It was magical! Haha. We got a free dessert because I told them this was an "early" anniversary celebration. Super early. Haha. All in all we spent 14 hours in the park, and loved every second of it! :). Train Show with Miles aka Moles

A couple of weeks ago Charles and I took our nephew Miles to a model train show at Thanksgiving point. That boy is in love with trains, so we knew it would be fun. Miles loves trains too. Haha. The place was crazy; there were lego model trains on a huge platform with different environments, super realistic model trains going over awesome trestle bridges with train carcasses in the ravine, and a giant model train that was pretty exciting. Miles was so excited to watch the trains drive around; he also loved all the model traincars that were for sale. We ended up leaving w/ a bunch of coal and reefer train cars. Anywhoo, it was awesome, everyone should go next year.

Miles is hard to get a clear photo of because he is always moving, haha. But we got a good one when he fell asleep with his train car on our way to get lunch. CUTE.

Christmas with the Bogus family!

This year for Christmas Charles and I went to stay at a cabin in Park City that his aunt Janet and uncle Eric had rented for the holidays. It was awesome! We went up to the same cabin 2 years prior when they had rented it for Christmas in 2008. The cabin in crazy; it is huge, has a theatre, a hot tub, a huge bunk-bed room and much more. Including tacky decorations, haha. Charles and I went up Wednesday night after work, and met up with his cousins Jeff, Julie, Mike and Emily on the way. Already at the cabin was Mary Ellen and her husband Dennis, Charles' dad and Janet & Eric's kids Alex and Laurel. We hung out and chatted it up Wednesday night.
We all got up early Thursday morning to go skiing at the Canyons. Charles, Alex, John and I headed up at the crack of dawn and skiied some pretty hard runs to start the day. And when I say hard, I mean for me. Haha. Everyone else glided down the hill in the deep (DEEP) powder, while I summersaulted and crawled down the hill. Haha. It was embarrassing. But the snow was to my mid-thighs! So anyway. At lunch we met up with Bill, Janet, Eric, Dennis & Julie. Charles went with everyone to do a few more runs while Julie and I went to wait by the tram as we were out of gas.
After skiing everyone got in the hot tub to soothe our achey legs, then we just hung out some more after dinner till going to bed (super early). Haha.
Friday was exciting! We lounged around in the morning enjoying the sun; around lunch time more family started showing up. Tom and Brooke arrived and started cooking the Christmas Curry for dinner. Around 6 the place was packed!! It was so fun to visit with all of Charles' relatives and get to know them better. After dinner everyone played with the little kids while Grandma Bogus passed out some presents. Then Charles' aunts and uncles gave eachother their gag gifts, which were hilarios. Mary Ellen made Janet and Eric a beautiful quilt as a thank you for hosting all of us at the cabin; each family and contributed a square that represented a memory or story with Eric & Janet. It was really nice.
Charles and I left around 8; we had decided we wanted to do Christmas morning at our house. More on that later! We had an awesome time at the Bogus Cabin Party 2K10!!

Charles and I love Halloween. Wait, I mean we LOVE Halloween. We had a Halloween party in September, we love it so much. This year was awesome since we had a yard to decorate! Earlier in September Charles and I purchased a Martha Stewart Halloween magazine to guide us in our creepy decorating. We made some headstones using the examples sweet little Martha had in the mag, and they turned out great! Observe:

This year we also put up our awesome skeleton, put a purple light in our porchlight and strung tons of spider webbing on the front of the house. It was so realistic, we even had some spiders take up residence! The night before Halloween we carved a ton of pumpkins and strung up our creepy orange lights (haphazardly). It looked great. Again, observe and be frightened:

We had to redo the spider webbing a few time since it kept storming, but it ended up looking great! I forgot to mention we got a sweet creepy fence to put along the pathway we built. It was a Halloween Wonderland. Saturday night Charles played a Halloween show, but I will let him blog about that. Happy Halloween! (4 days ago!)

Haha. But seriously. I have been bad at this. We have been up to a lot since my Spring softball season ended. We have been up to more softball!!!! HAHAHA. Plus more! My brother Grant got married to Stephanie in July and it was awesome. They got married up in Rexburg and here is a collage I made of the event:

After my bro's wedding, my family came down for a day which was super fun. The best part was playing wiffle ball in our front yard. Sarah went for extra bases every time, and almost everyone hit a home run, haha. It was their first time visiting us in Utah, and it was really nice to have them! A week or so later, my mom came down to UT to visit Charles and me, and it was great! We did a bunch of home improvements and gave her a tour of our work, and went for a hike up American Fork Canyon! We had a lot of fun and look forward to the next time my family is in town.

Mad Dog Cycles Softball rules!!

My womens' softball team won the champtionship game yesterday! We had a perfect season and played undefeated in the tournament. The last game was a close one; the other team tied it in the last inning, but Katie got an extra base off Merri's last hit to put herself in scoring position, then Sandra brought her home with a sacrafice fly! It was so fun to play with these ladies this summer, and I am really looking forward to the fall season!

5K & 10K race

Sike. I wish it was a race for a raise, haha. This past Wednesday we held the 5K and 10K races for the USS Olympics! As it was an evening run, I was worried that it was going to be super hot, but we ran in the canyon along the river so it was a beautiful comfortable run. Only 3 people participated in the 10K, and 6 people in the 5K. So I medaled automatically! The race was immediately after my softball game (we won! League champions!) which was right after a softball practice for our USS softball team. Phew! It was a busy day! Fortunately, the race course was mostly downhill and that made it so much easier. I ran my best time ever, 28 min and some change! Only a few more events left until the closing ceremonies where I can finally get my hands on those medals. :)

USS Triathlon!

Last Saturday I did the Triathlon for the USS Olympics! It was a 200 yard swim, a 6 mile bike ride and a 1 mile run, in that order. We all met down at Lindon Beach at Utah Lake at the crack o' dawn (7am). Eric the triathlon champion (he did the Ironman!) set the course up as we waited on the beach trying to decide if we had lost our minds or not. Haha. Fortunately, the lake was nice and warmish and as the sun came up, it got a little warmer. The men started swimming first; the water in the lake was so shallow, so they pretty much ran the whole 200 yards. After they got back to shore the ladies (Katie, Brooke, Kendra and I) walked to the starting point in the lake. The swim was a triangle shape, and we ran the first leg, ran/swam the second leg and ran the 3rd leg back to the shore. Actually walked, since running through water is extremely tiring. Haha. Then we hopped on our bikes and took off! Brooke got to hers first since she is a pro and Kendra and I headed up the ramp at the same time with Katie just behind. I rented a bike from the BYU outdoors store and it worked really well! Kendra had a sweet bike and took off, overtaking Brooke and taking the lead. The bike ride was really nice; the route ran through the town of Vineyard and beside some traintracks. It was kind of cold, and with the breeze from going so blazingly fast my feet went numb. When we got back to the beach (the bike route was a loop) we ran our bikes down the ramp and ran up the stairs to start the run. It was awesome! With my feet being frozen it was a little hard to get started but they warmed up quickly. Even though the run was only 1 mile, it felt so hard! I've never been happier to see a cone marking the half mile mark, haha. Kendra kicked butt and took the gold, with Brooke coming in second for silver, and I got the bronze! The men did really well too. It was so much fun and I cannot wait for next year! I hope to get a sweet road bike soon so I can do some more triathlons before then too. Hooray for USS Olympics!

Yesterday Charles and I went to Lagoon with Chevon and her cute kids. It was Diplomat day, so Chevon's mother-in-law got us tickets! The weather was in the mid-60s and cloudy which was perfect, and the park wasn't that busy, so the lines were all really short. Chevon, Charles and I took turns riding the rides with Miles and Savanna and staying with Avery, which worked great. The first ride we went on was a haunted house; I rode withe Miles and Charles went with Savanna. It was hilarious!! Miles would jump and shake when he was startled or scared during the ride and I couldn't stop laughing at him. Haha. I'm a nice aunt, huh? Anytime he went on a ride that goes in a circle he would say "I'm dizzy, I'm dizzy" over and over and over. Haha. Savanna was stoked out of her mind to be there and had so much fun. She kept saying she wanted to go on the huge roller coasters, but she was too short. Next year we will take her on them whether she changes her mind or not! Muah haha! Just kidding...maybe. Avery slept almost the whole time so she was cake. It was super fun and we can't wait to go again.

The Backstreet Boys are back

Haha...Charles' softball team is called Backstreet, so I like to tease that they are the backstreet boys. Anyway, softball!! Charles team this year is lousy with even more Bogi since Trent and Mike joined the team, so every week is like a Bogus family reunion. They have been having a rougher season than last year, but it has still been fun. Charles has gotten to try a lot of different positions and last night he played second base for the first time, and earned a nice bruise when a grounder hopped up right into his knee cap. Haha. At least it was not his face! He is awesome at softball and I love watching his games!

Summer of runnin'!

So far this summer I have run two 5ks and one 10K, and it has been awesome! Chevon and I ran that awesome on back in May, and a couple of weeks later I ran a 10K by myself in SLC to raise money to stop human trafficking. It has been a year since I ran that far and I surprised myself by doing really well! I ran it in 1:06 and was super excited. A couple of weeks ago I ran the Memorial Day 5K and got a personal record by running it in 29:10! I got 4th in my age group. I have another 5K coming up in a week and a mini triathalon (that I can't spell) on Saturday. Should be awesome! I love challenging myself and this has been a great way to do it!

As you can see I was tired from running trying to run as fast as I could. Haha. I saw the clock at the end and it said 36 min so I was super disappointed. But that was the clock from the 10K race, which had started before my race. Ha.

Quick update before I get photos! Yesterday Chevon and I ran the Provo City 5K, and we did great! We both got 33rd in our respective age groups, and ran through hail, snow, and rain! It was really fun none the less. Also, it has been weather like that for the last week. I can't believe it. Charles and my softball seasons just started and my first game still happened after a snow storm! But we won and I got a great hit at the end to tie the game. Charles had his first game 2 weeks ago and he did awesome. His game was cancelled this past week, but hopefully the weather will cooperate this upcoming week and we can both play in pleasant weather.
Work has been insane lately. We had a record breaking month in March, making 21.4 million dollars, and broke the record again in April! Way to go? The question mark because: high sales means Charles works a lot of overtime, along with the rest of the company, so everyone is exhausted. I am mentally beat from processing the hundreds of sales orders and pretty much being our customers' slave. Haha. We have taken on SO MUCH work and new business so the company will be expanding and building on to our factory for the duration of the year. And this is the SLOW PERIOD. HAHA. March and April is when Canada goes through a spring thaw, so they can't drill or move their rigs around. So when they ramp up and start ordering again we will probably die. Hahahah. Hopefully not. Overall, it is great to be doing well. USS has hired hundreds of temps and it is nice to be getting so many people jobs. And our bonuses will be sweet come June. So, yeah for work!

Horseshoe Canyon 2010! ftw

Charles and I went on a hike with some folk from our company down in Horseshoe Canyon a few weeks ago. We drove down Friday night and tried to camp in Green River...however, paying 30 bones for a campsite is not legit. Plus, the original campsite at which we planned on spending the night turned out to be an open sewage pond. We were expecting a "The Hills Have Eyes" moment to happen any time as we were driving away from the campsite/poo pond; Green River is kind of creepy. So we set up camp in a cheap motel! I love motels.
In the morning we met up at a diner and had a delicious hearty breakfast then drove down to the canyon. It was a 70 mile drive, 30 miles on nice road, 40 on dirt. And we drove our new Matrix. My bad for thinking that was a good idea. The Matrix drove fine, but it was not really the type of road you want to go on with a brand new car, AWD or not. It didn't help the the group we were following drove 60 MPH ON A DIRT ROAD AAAAAAAAAAATGHGHGH. That was horrible. But we made it!

We all hiked down the canyon, stopping to look at Dinosaur Tracks a couple of times which was super exciting. The canyon floor was almost 100% sand, which makes for slow going, but it was very enjoyable. There were 4 locations along the hike where we saw pictographs and petroglyphs! That was amazing. The rangers we saw at the end said they are 3500+ years old and they know close to nothing about the civilizations that made them or what the canyon was like in their time. It was really incredible. We have our own theories about their meaning; one of the drawings looks like Master Shake....coincidence? A few of them appear to be aliens too, which is neat. Anyway, who knows.

We hiked down to the end of the canyon at the Grand Gallery, had some snacks while trying in vain to avoid being bitten by giant red ants, then headed back out. The weather was perfect all day so even hiking in sand in the afternoon was nice! When Charles and I started climbing up out of the canyon, we felt like superhumans; hiking on rock is 1,000,000 x easier than hiking in sand. We were the first to the top too! Sweet.

After driving back to Green River everyone met up at Ray's Tavern and had some dinner, then drove home. It was an awesome trip and we can't wait for next month's hike!

Spring in Virginia

Charles and I went to visit my family in VA a couple of weeks ago! We always love going out there, and being that spring arrived just before us, we were more excited than ever! We flew into Baltimore which was pretty confusing to navigate, but thank goodness Charles' phone has GPS. My brother Justin arrived in VA the day after we did after serving his last day in the Marines! It was great to see him. My brother Grant was there as well, getting ready to go back to Idaho for school, and we got to meet his now fiancee Stephanie! She is great. Grant is growing up so fast :) haha.

My younger siblings Aaron, Dallin & Sarah were all in school during the day, so Charles spent our first couple of days hiking in the woods behind my parent's house and shopping! And eating. Haha. There is a tiny cemetery in the woods that we hiked to, with 5 or so headstones from the 1890s. My siblings and I like to go there every time I visit, and it was fun to take Charles. We went back again the same day with my siblings after they got home.

We also spent a lot of our time playing basketball in the driveway, swinging in the backyard, and playing awesome night games. I told you the weather was nice. We were outside the majority of the time we were there. Haha, Virginia rules!

Charles and I went to DC, which was also a lot of fun. We decided to go to the Holocaust museum, but when we got there the next tickets were for late in the afternoon, so we skipped it. We went and ate at Java Green, which is a yummy vegan eatery, and got some delicious cake with lunch! yum....

We then went to the Lincoln memorial and saw the WW2 memorial. It was a lot of walking, but it was so nice outside we loved it!

Chevon had her baby Avery Heather Bayless 3 weeks ago, and she is a cutie. Charles and I went to visit them in the hospital and got to hold Avery and watch her make grumpy face after grumpy face. She seemed annoyed to have been born :). She was so so tiny and adorable. We are excited to have another niece!

For Christmas Charles got me a gift certificate to Runners' corner to get some running shoes; we went and got some today! We went and I tried on 8 or so pairs of shoes, running a bit in each of them and finally settled on these babies. I am really excited to continue my high-mileage training with these. Thanks Charles!

Hello! It has been a while. Here is a quick run down of our recent activities.

1. We got to go to a Jazz game in one of the hospitality suites! It was super nice. Charles got the tickets from his boss at work because Charles is AWESOME.

2. We went to Natalie & Darren's wedding! It was in CA, the weather was amazing and even though Charles and I got lost a number of times driving to a number of locations, it was still so fun! Our little cousins are fun kids.

3. Christmas! Charles and I stayed in Provo for Christmas, and had our first Christmas together! It was so fun buying a tree and ornaments and setting it all up, decorating our house, and putting gifts under the tree! We went to Chevon's house a lot and went skiing Christmas day and again the same weekend with Charles' aunt Janet, uncle Eric and their kids. It was a really fun holiday.

4. Lastly, we went to another Jazz game in the hospitality suite last night! It was awesome again, even though the Jazz took a sad beating. Thanks, rich people at work!

Well, I wish he was my dog. On Saturday I walked this sweetheart. His name is Cleatus and he is probably the scraggliest pup I have ever seen. Charles said he looks like a hobo dog, and that describes him perfectly, haha. He has a big bald spot behind his left ear, and the mangiest coat ever. Haha. But he was so sweet and fun. After 3 years almost exactly since their last show, Parallax played again! UVU was having a benefit show to raise money for a scholarship in memory of Charles and the rest of the band's friends Blake and Jen. The line up was wack, haha. Lots of really weird performers i.e. Mark Slaughter.....? Who is that. No one knew. And some crappy UVU music student who played probably the worst song on guitar we have ever heard. And there was a banjo fest! That was crazy. Fortunately, Parallax was asked to play last minute and they were able to perfect 2 of their songs after practicing all weekend long. When the curtains opened and they started to play everyone went on stage to sing along. It was great, and the crowd looked pretty uncomfortable, ha. Anyway, it was great to see them play again after so long.

After they played some of us went backstage and outside, and this is a picture of us. It was an awesome night. Thanks for playing Charles, Mikey, Trey, Elliot and Jeff!

Today Charles and I volunteered for the first time at the Humane Society in Murray. We got to walk a bunch of adorable puppies and small dogs, and these are some of the gems we met!

Dinner at Grappa

As our wedding gift Charles' cousin Trent treated us to a fancy dinner at Grappa in Park City. It is really really nice restaurant so we were so excited. The chef prepared yummy vegan food especially for us. We started with summer melons drizzled with fresh sea salt and a balsamic reduction which was delicious. Then we had a grains salad. It was some egyptian grain that tasted so creamy, with fresh roma tomatoes, artichokes, asparagus, and corn. Yum! That was my favorite. The main course was an orzo pasta with shredded cucumber, tons of fresh vegetables, all cooked in a nice vegetable broth. Then for desert we had an amazing raspberry sorbet. It was so good and so fun! Trent served us and we met the chef and we both felt so special and spoiled. It was definitely the nicest dinner we have ever had. Thank you Trent!

Charles the cutie turned 25 on July 6th! We worked all day (gag) even though I kept trying to convince him to leave, ha. When we got home I made his requested dinner: tatertot casserole and a salad! It was delicious. Then he opened a couple of presents and had his birthday cheesecake. I sure love Charles and am excited he will now get car insurance discounts!

Yesterday Charles and I went to Chevon's house in Spanish Fork for some fun swimming time! We saw this along the way:

Hahaha. Awesome.

We went swimming at a big man-made pond up in the foothills, and it was so refreshing. Charles, Chevon and I decided to try to swim across the pond, haha. Yeah right. We went about 25 meters then tried to get out, but the cement walling was really mossy, so we just slid around on it and had a really hard time getting out, which was really funny. Charles loved swimming there, since it was nice and cold :).

A couple of days before our wedding Charles had a flag football game for the US Synthetic Olympics at work. It was the gold medal game, and his team, Pocono Killers, did really well. They didn't win the gold, but they won the silver!! Charles had a lot of really awesome plays, and it was a lot of fun to watch.

Charles, Matt, Kara and I went to the Festival of Colors at the Krishna temple last saturday. The festival is a celebration of the beginning of spring!!! They burned an effigy of a demon woman and as the fire was lit everyone in attendance (I think it was about 1 billion people, probably) threw bags of colored powder at each other, or just strait up threw the powder in each others' faces. It was AMAZING. The second the fire was lit the sky went dark and all you could see was a pink cloud; you had colored powder in your eyes and your mouth and covering every inch of you. It was so so so fun. I had taken my trendy camera that uses GASP film!!!!!! And I took lots of really awesome pictures. When I got home I was stoked to take the film to get developed so I opened the back of the camera and THERE WAS NO FILM. I am officially a blonde. Sike. So the only picture we have of being there is one Charles took on his phone of me and Matt. The rest of the pictures are - like the title says- what I would have if I wasn't an idiot.

My friend Johnny recently turned me on to MUNNY. DIY toys by a company called KID ROBOT. They are figures that come totally blank and you paint/decorate them yourself. I got one a few weeks ago and painted it. I used spray paint, acrylics, and paint markers. Here are some pictures...

Charles and I love his mom's puppy Sammy. She is ridiculously fun to play with. She loves the snow and dug trenches for herself around the yard in the foot deep snow. It is really cute to see her run around in circles in her little trenches.

I got a new job! I am now a proud employee of US Synthetic Co! Thanks to Charles' diligence and hard work, I got an interview with a friend of ours and was given the job!

Alas, Charles and I will not be working together since I will be working on the graveyard shift. But we do have the same boss! Adorable. Peep the almost fashionable steel toed shoes I get to wear.
